A következő információk leginkább azoknak lesz érthető, akik jártasok Linuxban, de azért egy kis magyarázatot megpróbálunk fűzni hozzá. Az adatok RDA-n lettek lekérve FifiTheReal által az ott kipróbálható egyik Nokia N900-ból.

Parancs rövid magyarázata:
A unix like rendszerek mindent (illetve a root által beállított dolgokat) naplózzák a /var/log/ katalógus alatt különböző file-okban. A dmesg a gép bekapcsolása óta kernel által naplózott dolgokat írja ki: milyen hardware-t talál, milyen modult töltött be hozzá, milyen filerendszert ismert fel, milyen szenzort detektált stb.

3. ‘mount’
Parancs rövid magyarázata: a felcsatolt filerendszerekről ad információt (típus, hova csatolták és milyen opciókkal). A unix like rendszereknél nincsenek meghajtónevek (c:, d:), hanem a filerendszereket oda csatolja a rendszergazda vagy az arra jogosult felhasználó ahova akarja. Pl. nekem (FifiTheReal) a /home/usernevem/bigkatalógus alá kell sok hely, akkor oda csatolok egy 500 GB-os disket. A csatoláskor megadhatók opciók írható, olvasható, lehessen rajta programot futtatni, melyik felhasználó vagy csoport férhet hozzá stb.

A betöltött kernel modulok neve. mérete és azokat milyen más modulok használják. A modulok tulajdonképpen a windows-nál megszokott driverek, de egy moduláris unix kernel esetén ezek futásidőben ki-be tölthetőek (ami nem kell minek foglalja a memóriát, illetve egy eszközhöz kipróbálhatok egymás után több modult is, hátha az egyik jobb), tehát egy új eszközhöz betöltöm a modult (akár felparaméterezve pl. hálókártya milyen sebességgel működjön, mi legyen a MAC addresse stb.) és használom. Nem kell újraindítani a rendszert stb.
